Worship services by and with Neal Morse are always good for a musical surprise. Thus, Neal doesn't only give solo performances on piano or acoustic guitar; if there are musicians in church who enjoy spontaneous jams or who can even join him on some of his songs, it can lead to a full band line-up. Like, for example, this time in Berlin and Gummersbach. We have caught these and other moments for you on video.
On this year's tour in January and February, Neal visited many churches and institutions, partly as a special guest of a major event, or he himself arranged the evening. In Berlin, at least a rhythm section (drums & bass) is the standard, since two of his friends there played with him several times and prepare for when Neal comes back to visit. The three guys were joined for a song by two other musicians and fans of Neal's music, which led to a spontaneous version of "Help Me / The Spirit And The Flesh" - with no rehearsal or prior consultation:
Even a whole week, Neal was traveling in the Gummersbach area on this tour. A highlight was the visit of a church called "Kirche für Oberberg", where a few other professional musicians were present, and they decided spontaneously to play a few traditional or well-known worship songs with Neal. The last event where Neal was a guest this winter was a special one: "Lifeline" is not only one of Neal's songs but also a big youth worship event in Bergneustadt that takes place several times a year and is organized and hosted by volunteers from the surrounding churches. Thus it was obvious that Neal gets a spot in the program. He talked a bit about his life and played four songs, amongst others of course "Lifeline". Neal was supported here by Javier Ezpeleta, a musician from Spain, who had accompanied him the days before as well on vocals, guitar and piano with great passion.
If you are in the mood for attending a worship evening with Neal Morse after having watched those videos, you will have the opportunity in early April in the USA. And Neal is coming back to Europe again this year for sure.
